Assumption Parents' Club
Mission Statement
Parent's Club supports the school in striving to help all children reach their potential spiritually, mentally, and physically in an atmosphere of Catholic Christian love and understanding.
Purpose
Assumption Parents' Club has been a long standing part of Assumption School. It was founded by a group of caring parents whose goal was to provide assistance to the school in many different ways.
The purpose of Parents' Club is to promote, serve, and financially support Assumption School. Parents' Club assists in helping to provide academic excellence, social interaction and services to enhance the quality of the school.
Membership
Membership is open to every parent or guardian who registers and pays the annual dues and who is willing to follow the by-laws of the club. General business meetings are held monthly. All parents are urged to attend business meetings. Only members are allowed to vote on issues at meetings.
Parents' Club Programs
Through the efforts of various committees the following programs are offered at Assumption School:
Student Activities
School assemblies are scheduled throughout the school year. These assemblies cover topics of interest to the children. In prior years, assemblies have covered science, art, music, history and language arts.
Two popular events are Easter and Halloween Bingo. For a small admission children can play bingo and win prizes. Refreshments are also available.
Skating parties are held on a regular basis in the evening at a local rink.
Junior high dances are held four times a year in the Family Center for the students.
The school picnic is held at the end of the school year. A committee plans games and other activities for the children to enjoy. Lunch is provided by Parents' Club.
Services
Room mothers give their time to assist teachers with field trips, classroom activities and holiday parties.
The hot lunch program offers students several choices from various area establishments. Choices range from hot dogs, pizza and other sandwiches. Orders are taken monthly and served by lunch mothers. Snack boxes are also available on a regular basis. Students can purchase a small snack at a reasonable cost.
The Hospitality Committee hosts coffee/donut socials and helps to provide refreshments at Reconciliation, Confirmation, Kindergarten Screening and Graduation.
Parents' Club provides a uniform exchange for its members. Uniforms that are out-grown are collected and distributed by a committee person.
The Sunshine Committee recognizes births, deaths, and illnesses of the school staff and families.
During the school year the entrance and hallways of the school are decorated by the Banner Committee to match the current season or to note a special event.
Staff Services
Teacher appreciation is also a part of Parents' Club. Teachers are welcomed back to school with a special acknowledgment. During conferences and Catholic Schools Week, luncheons are provided for the teachers and the staff. Parents' Club members show off their culinary skills by cooking their own specialties.
Fundraising
Throughout the school year, Parents' Club oversees several fundraising events. Currently the main fund-raisers at Assumption are the Certificate Program and the Auction.
Certificates
Certificates are purchased on a dollar-per-dollar basis. These certificates are available from a wide variety of local businesses (i.e., grocery stores, restaurants, and retail stores). The school, parish and the participant all benefit from this program. This program is mandatory for all school families.
Auction
The auction features items donated by parents and local businesses.
All proceeds from fundraising help to maintain the academic excellence of the school. Through the hard work of many volunteers, monies have been raised in prior years to help purchase items such as computers and printers, library books, carpeting, televisions and VCRs, as well as storage units for each classroom. The school's needs are assessed on a yearly basis to determine which items will be purchased.
Benefits
Pride in knowing all our efforts work to make Assumption School a better place for our children.
Voting rights on issues which pertain to Assumption School Parents' Club.
Reduced admissions for families attending school functions and skating parties.
Field trips, school assemblies, the school picnic, playground equipment, and other educational items the school might otherwise do without are funded with the help of Parents' Club membership dues and its fund-raisers.
