Gaudete Sunday marks the beginning of the ‘countdown’ period before the Feast of the Lord’s Nativity—Christmas Day. On this day, the rose colored vestments and candle on the Advent wreath issue the clarion call to rejoice for the Lord is near. In the everyday world in which we live, there is a special urgency about this time—there is so much to be accomplished before Christmas.
There are extra opportunities for reconciliation to prepare ourselves spiritually for Christmas.
† In addition to Saturday afternoon from 3:00-3:40pm we will offer Confessions on Wednesday, December 22nd from 6:00-8:00pm.
† Thursday, December 23rd from 2:00-4:00pm and
† Christmas Eve morning from 10:00-11:00am.
I would like to voice the appreciation of the Benedictine Community of St. Andrew Abbey for your support of the National Collection of behalf of Retired Religious. Each of our communities receive assistance from the proceeds of this collection for use in caring for our infirm members. From our hearts we thank you for the concern you show to those who served God so well and continue to do so even in their retirement and illness.
Wednesday evening, December 15th, we will have our Rorate Mass at 7:00pm in church. This Mass is held by candlelight and is a special Advent Mass in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary to honor her expectation of the
Child Jesus. This is a great way to spiritually prepare for Christmas. Remember to bring a candle to burn during Mass.
