Come celebrate Lent at Assumption. We begin the Lenten Season in union with the Roman Catholic Church throughout the world by the observance of Ash Wednesday which is on February 17th. In this special sacred time of prayer and sacrifice that leads to conversion, we are asked to make the extra effort that is necessary to form within us a more Christ-like way of life by means of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
Masses on Ash Wednesday will be at : 6:30am, 8:30am, Noon and 7:00pm. The Blessing and distribution of Ashes will take place at all these liturgies.
Each Wednesday of Lent will be Way of the Cross Devotions at 6:30pm and Mass at 7:00pm (with the exception of Ash Wednesday and Wednesday of Holy Week).
Every Friday of Lent we will also offer the ‘Way of The Cross Devotions’ with ‘Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament’ each Friday evening of the Lenten Season.
Every Friday of Lent enjoy our ‘Fabulous Fish Fry’ from 4:00-8:00pm in a drive through-takeout format.
On the First Sunday of Lent, February 21st, at the 9:30am Liturgy, there will be a penitential procession with the chanting of the Litany of the Saints where all can take part if they so choose.
Remember that Ash Wednesday is a day of Fast and Abstinence. Fasting means that only one full meal for the day is allowed with just something light at the other times to maintain strength. Fasting applies to those ages 18-59.
Abstinence means that no meat may be eaten (even poultry) and applies to those 14 years of age and up.
May you have a Blessed and Spiritually Fruitful Lent.
