It is with sad hearts that we commend the soul of Sr. Rosemarie Burke, S.I.W. to God whom she served so well as a Sister of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament for 59 years.  Sister Rosemarie passed away on May 5th after a lengthy illness.

Here at Assumption, Sister Rosemarie served for over 14 years as a teacher and Director of Faith Formation at Assumption Academy and as Director of Religious Education for our parish.  In every ministry Sister accepted, she brought a gentle presence that manifested her profound relationship with Jesus, her Spouse, whom she served so well.  We pray that Sister’s reward will be great and that she will have a full share in the heavenly kingdom.

This week I received the welcome news that our proposed capital projects for the summer received approval from Bishop Malesic to proceed.  These projects include:  replacing the radiant heating system in the academy building with new heating and air-conditioning units and the second phase of the refurbishment of our church.  After the necessary contracts have been drawn up, work will commence, most probably in early June.  I would like to sincerely thank all those who donated to the Rooted in Faith and We Give Catholic initiatives that made these projects possible.  May God reward you for your generosity.

There is still room for people to join us on the Centennial Pilgrimage in the footsteps of St. Benedict and St. Andrew Svorad.  Pick up a brochure at the rectory office or log into group code 22028 for more information on a pilgrimage of a lifetime.

There are several seats available on the Pastoral Council.  This is a group of parishioners who advise the pastor on the various aspects of parish life including: Worship, Education, Family Life, activities and Temporal Goods.  The next meeting is May 19th at 7:00pm in the Lower Rectory Hall.  Come and see if this may be a way God is calling you to serve your parish.
