November 5, 2023

Fr. Louis, Fr. Finbar and I would like to take this opportunity to offer our most heartfelt thanks for those who took time and made the effort to adore Christ our Eucharistic King this past Friday as we prayed and fasted for priests and peace in the Holy Land. It was good seeing people coming in and out of church that day. It's too bad this doesn't happen more often.

Many people talk about priests and their faults and, for sure we have them. However, how many pray for their priests? If we are going to offer criticism, the least we can do is pray for the person we criticize. Prayer often broadens our insights, thus enabling us to see the good in the person, as God sees the good in us. May God richly reward you for your prayers and kindness to us priests serving at Assumption. Please be assured of our prayers for you too.

Please remember to support our Scouts and Veterans this week. On Wednesday, November 8, Troop 810 sponsors its annual Rigatoni Dinner. The proceeds from this event assist in funding the Scouts' activities for the year. The Scouts perform many unseen favors for us. Let's band together and give them a show of our support. The next morning, November 9, Assumption will honor the veterans who served our country in the Armed Forces. Mass will be at 8:30 a.m. followed by a short program in their honor in the Family Center. We thank our veterans for their service to our country and extend our prayerful best wishes for their health and well-being.

As Election Day draws near this Tuesday, November 7, I would like to give everyone the friendly reminder to get out and vote. This is our civic duty and we, as American citizens, should, by all means, fulfill it. Please pray to the Holy Spirit before you vote so that your vote reflects your faith. There are several important matters to be voted upon. One that I believe is crucial to the well being of society is Issue 1. While I cannot tell you how to vote, my sincere and ardent prayer is that you vote NO to this amendment. If we are a country that stands up for the human rights all over the world, this respect for life and human rights must begin with those who cannot in any way defend themselves. Please consider carefully and prayerfully how you will vote on Tuesday. May the Holy Spirit of God enlighten you to make the right choice.
