November 8, 2020

With the month of November our thoughts naturally turn to plans that we make for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Let’s not also forget to put first things first on Thanksgiving Day itself by assisting at Mass at 9:00am.  Hope to see you there.

I would like to express my thanks for 2 groups in our parish who offer continued service and involvement.  The first is the Adult Acolytes who serve all the Funeral Masses at Assumption, the First Friday Devotions, the Memorial Masses, and many other occasions.  These ladies and gentlemen take time out of their busy schedules to provide a ministry of consolation at funerals and really help when no servers are available.  As the adults acolytes mature in age, their numbers decrease, and so they are looking for some good men and women to fill their ranks.  This is a real mutual benefit group that looks out for one another and also a good way to cultivate new friendships.  Looking for a good way to help others? Try the Adult Acolytes.

Last Wednesday, Troop 810 of the Boy Scouts had their Annual Dinner that serves as a fundraiser for their various activities.  It was good to see so many lending support to this group who take time to help with the parish activities, especially the Fish Fries and Picnic, especially with the challenges presented by the pandemic.  Some of the improvements around our parish grounds are the result of the various projects undertaken for the rank of Eagle Scout.  We thank our scouts and those who serve as leaders for all the good they perform as they celebrate 51 years of service to Assumption Parish and the surrounding community.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, one of the ways we show our thanks for a person’s presence in our lives is by being diligent and attentive in our relationship to them.  Perhaps a good resolution to make for Thanks-giving is to make it to Mass on time.  I notice that some folks are coming into church while the readings are being proclaimed and this number is increasing at an alarming rate.  God only asks an hour of your time in a week and he is so good to us in so many ways.  Let’s make the extra effort to make it to Mass right at its beginning.  Give God the full measure of your service.  God would never take a shortcut with us, why should we do so with him.?  Give yourselves the time to leave earlier so that you can get to Mass on time.  Yes, we all lead very busy lives, but God rewards especially those who try their hardest to give him their best.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
