Today we mark the mid-way point of the Lenten Season. The Church pays special attention to this milestone by naming this Sunday Laetare Sunday, that is, "Be glad" Sunday. Rather than the usual violet, the priest's and deacon's vesture may be rose color and flowers and greenery may appear on the altar instead of the stark barrenness that is the usual Lenten fare. This relaxation of the severity of Lent serves both to support our efforts made at keeping our Lenten resolutions and to encourage us if our resolution is beginning to tire. Let us do our utmost to keep the course of a good Lent going and, if we have slackened, to get back on track.
Please remember to mark off the Wednesday evenings on your calendar for the Way of the Cross devotions followed by the Lenten Speakers Series. This year Fr. Michael Brunovsky, OSB will enlighten us on the life and ministry of St. Paul, who speaks to us almost every Sunday in the second reading at Mass, Randy Malick will expose us to various Eucharistic Miracles around the world with Eucharistic Adoration as part of the evening as part of the Eucharistic Revival. Then on Wednesday of Holy Week our Music Ministry will perform a Choral Tenebrae to set the tone for the Easter Triduum. Please take advantage of these opportunities for Lenten recollection in this holy season.
