October 27, 2024

As October turns into November, the Church's thoughts turn us to the Communion of Saints--the great network of charity and prayer between those in heaven--the Church Triumphant; God's people on earth--the Church Militant, and the souls in Purgatory--the Church Suffering. All Saints Day, November 1, presents us with the souls of all those who are citizens of the heavenly kingdom. These are the saints, who join their prayers to ours and spur us on to victory to join them one day to behold God face to face in ultimate and eternal happiness. This is our goal as Christian—to become saints! Masses will be 4:00 p.m. on October 31, and 6:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., noon and 7:00 p.m. for this Holyday of Obligation.

All Souls' Day, November 2, was a feast that was established by the Benedictine Abbot St. Odilo of Cluny in France. This day is a day of remembrance of our beloved deceased, as well as all those who are in the state of purification in preparation to meet God in heaven (this is what Purgatory means). Here at Assumption, the traditional 3 Masses for All Souls' Day will be observed. These Masses will be at 6:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. This Liturgy will commemorate in a special way all those from our parish who have gone into eternal life this past year. Please remember the Holy Souls during this month of November with your Masses, prayers, and good works on their behalf. Remember: our chief ministry as members of the Communion of Saints is to show charity for one another, and this includes prayer for the living and the dead, one of the Spiritual works of Mercy.
