Life and death are part of the journey we all share. The loss of a loved one brings sorrow, change, and many difficult decisions. Through our faith in Jesus Christ, we find hope in His promise of eternal life. At the Church of the Assumption, we are here to accompany you and your family with prayer, compassion, and support as you prepare to celebrate the Funeral Mass for your loved one.

Whether you are making arrangements after the loss of a loved one or planning ahead, this page has been created to guide you through the funeral planning process. Before meeting with a member of our parish staff, we encourage you to review the resources below and prayerfully consider your selections. You are welcome to make your choices in advance or simply use these materials to become familiar with the Funeral Mass.

 

If a Death Has Occurred

Please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of your loved one.

To begin making funeral arrangements:

1. Contact your chosen funeral home.
2. The funeral home will coordinate directly with the Church of the Assumption to schedule the Funeral Mass.
3. Before publishing an obituary or death notice, please ensure the funeral arrangements have been confirmed with the parish.
4. A parish representative will contact you to assist with planning the Funeral Mass, including selecting the Scripture readings, music, and other liturgical details.

Funeral Mass Information

Mass Times

Funeral Masses are typically celebrated Monday through Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Special arrangements may be made when necessary.

Holy Week & Holy Days

Funeral Masses are not celebrated during Holy Week or on Holy Days of Obligation. During Holy Week, a Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass, including the Liturgy of the Word and Final Commendation, may be celebrated. A Memorial Mass may be scheduled at a later date.

Celebrant

Ordinarily, one of the priests of the Church of the Assumption celebrates the Funeral Mass. A priest who is a family member or friend is welcome to celebrate or concelebrate with prior arrangements.

Music

The parish provides musicians and cantors for all Funeral Masses. Requests for outside musicians or soloists should be discussed with the Music Director before making arrangements.

Offerings

Funeral stipends are arranged through the funeral home. The customary offering for a Memorial Mass is $250, payable directly to the Church of the Assumption.

A member of our parish staff will meet with you, either in person or by phone, to help plan the Funeral Mass. During this meeting, you'll have the opportunity to choose:
