The Divine Mercy Chapel, led by Father Justin Dyrwal and parishioners Jane Luke and Tim Byrne celebrated its 25th year in 2022.

 We all want to spend dedicated time in prayer with God, but the distractions of daily life keep many of us from making a commitment and doing so. The Divine Mercy Chapel, located behind the sanctuary of Assumption Church, provides a place to focus on our relationship with Jesus in quiet solitude and reflection.

The Divine Mercy Chapel is open daily for prayerful adoration from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. There are also opportunities for visitors to commit to weekly one-hour adoration time slots.  

“Those who try it really enjoy it. It’s a very special time,” said Tim Byrne, whose been visiting the chapel for more than a decade and recently started organizing time slots and visitor sign-ups with fellow parishioner Jane Luke. “People do all kinds of different things during their time. They pray for specific people in there, some people read the Bible or other religious books; it’s up to the individual how they want to spend the time. The Divine Mercy Chapel is open to the public and visitors can come and go as they want. Being that close to the eucharist saying your prayers is a very special thing.”

Prior to the pandemic, the Divine Mercy Chapel was open 24/7 for adoration, notes Luke. Eventually, leaders would like to have two adorers for each hour the chapel is open. The Divine Mercy Chapel celebrates its 25^th anniversary in 2022 and those who visit it regularly know just how special of a place it is.

“Having a quiet, private place to pray and reflect on the Eucharist is really important,” Luke said.

Byrne notes how special it is to have a dedicated time and place to reflect on our faith and commitment to Christ.

“Once you start regularly visiting the Divine Mercy Chapel, you notice it when you’re not there, because your time there is so special,” Byrne said. “It’s a very warm, friendly space with the object of your time there to be in quiet reflection with Jesus.”
