The Lenten Season affords us much opportunity to practice prayer, fasting and almsgiving. The faithful practice of these three activities provides the means of clearing the path for our relationship with God to grow stronger and stronger. It is my hope that you take advantage of the opportunities Assumption provides for your spiritual growth during this holy season. Take the time to spend time in prayer on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. by praying the Way of the Cross. Take time to attend the series on the Apostles after the Resurrection the 1st three Wednesday evenings in March after the Stations of the Cross. Avail yourselves of one or another of the new CD's or books in the Lending Library that help open our understanding of the faith. Also, come to the evening of Confession this Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and encourage someone who has not been to this beautiful sacrament in a long while to go with you. This will surely enrich your spiritual journey.

Assumption's Hands and Hearts with Haiti will coordinate our Lenten Almsgiving project. The proceeds from our alms will meet a multitude of needs. Among these are the support of a Catholic School, water treatment, goats for the farms, agricultural training, and needed repairs for the church buildings. It is a great privilege that God gives us the means to lift these people up to a decent standard of living.

In your monthly packet of envelopes is one dedicated for your almsgiving. Contribute what you can. Every amount helps. Imagine the doors you will open for the children who live in a country where 60% of the population is illiterate and where 80% of the people live on less than $1.00 a day. God bless you for your generosity.
