For those who do not know already, we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Christ today rather than 40 days after Easter, which would have been last Thursday. There are a number of places in the United States and Latin America which transfer this feast to Sunday so that the great events of the Paschal season: the Resurrection, the Ascension, and the Descent of the Holy Spirit are celebrated on a Sunday. The state of Ohio is one of those places. So if you couldn't make Mass last Thursday, not to worry. You didn't miss a Holyday of Obligation.
We congratulate our eighth graders from Assumption Academy who will have their commencement exercises this Monday, June 2nd in our church. Also, we offer our heartfelt congratulations to all those in our parish who graduated from middle school, high school, college and graduate studies. May the Holy Spirit guide you to a bright and hopeful future in all your endeavors.
This week Fr. Louis and I will be on retreat with our brothers from St. Andrew Abbey at Loyola Retreat House. Presently I am trying to find a priest who can offer the 8:30 Mass from Tuesday through Friday. If I can find one by this weekend, then we can have the 8:30 Mass while we are on retreat. If we are unable to find one, then we have to forego Masses from Tuesday through Friday of retreat week, June 3-8. Both Fr. Louis and I will offer the intentions while we are on retreat. The regular weekday schedule will resume Saturday morning.
We extend to Erin McDonough, our Director of Communications, the best of blessings as she accepts a new position at St. Mary Parish, Hudson, Ohio. We thank her for the excellent work and for taking our parish to new heights by the use of social media. Thank you for a job well done.
