March 2, 2025

Each Lenten season, there is a Diocesan wide effort to promote the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance). Each church in the Diocese of Cleveland is asked to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconcilitation from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19. Here at Assumption we will be participating fully in this event. There will be Confessions held in church at this time. Please avail yourselves of this unique opportunity and invite others to join you, particularly if they haven't celebrated the sacrament in a while.

Ash Wednesday, March 5, begins the Lenten Season for all Roman Catholics. Masses are 6:30 and 8:30 a.m., 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. This day is also a day of Fast and Abstinence. Fasting means 1 full meal for the day and 2 smaller ones with just enough food to maintain strength and is binding on those ages 18-59. Abstinence means no meat may be eaten. This includes chicken or turkey as well and is binding from the age of 14.

Remember that each Catholic must perform his or her Easter Duty. This means that one must receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and receive Communion once from the First Sunday of Lent till Trinity Sunday. Here at Assumption we will have our Easter Confessions on Monday afternoon, April 14 from 2-4:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, April 16, from 6-8:00 p.m. and Holy Thursday morning, April 17, from 10-11 a.m. This is in addition to our regular confession schedule. Please mark your calendars for these important dates. May your Lenten season be holy and grace-filled.
