Dear Members of Assumption Parish,
I regret to inform you that Fr. Justin was involved in a serious car accident Monday afternoon, September 9, in Pittsburgh. He was taken by rescue squad to the hospital, where it was determined that he had 4 broken ribs and severely injured his left foot. He underwent surgery for his foot and is currently recovering slowly. I traveled to Pittsburgh on Thursday, September 12, and was able to visit and speak with Fr. Justin. I gave him the Sacrament of the sick and I assured him of the prayers of the monastic community and Assumption Parish. Our Prior, Fr. Michael, is working with Father Louis and Al Pytel to make sure that all obligations of the parish are covered. It is up to the medical professionals to determine when Fr. Justin will be able to return to the Cleveland area. I and the Abbey leadership are in communication with them and Fr. Justin regarding his needs. The Abbey will provide a plan for Fr. Justin's recuperation in conjunction with the recommendations of the medical staff. On behalf of the medical staff, we urge no one to personally contact Fr. Justin so that he may receive the rest he needs during this stressful time.
Yours sincerely,
Rt. Rev. Gary A. Hoover, OSB
Abbot
Benedictine Order of Cleveland
