Because of the movie “Schindler’s List”, the actions of Oskar Schindler on behalf of the Jews in the concentration camps were made famous. On one occasion, a number of those rescued through Schindler’s efforts decided to show their gratitude for all that he had done for them. They fashioned a golden ring with this inscription on the inner circle, “The one who saves a single life saves the entire world.”

Today at Mass we read the story of Jesus healing the 10 lepers. Leprosy was a disease that not only meant certain death but also isolated those suffering with it from the world around them. So we can say that Jesus, by healing those 10 men saved both their lives and their worlds. In fact we believe that, by his redemptive work, Jesus not only saved the world but also granted new life to each of us by his Resurrection.

As a result of receiving this new life at our baptism, we often take it for granted because, outwardly speaking, the actions that brought about this life seemed so simple. It was just that way with the cure of the lepers. Jesus’ command was so simple, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” That only 1 of the lepers realized that he had this new lease on life.

Often our efforts on behalf of human life seem so simple. People have become so used to Pro - Life rallies, the March for Life in Washington D.C. and the voluminous literature on behalf of this cause that they seem immune to it all. It seems hardly to make an impression at all. Sometimes all our efforts seem so futile. It’s at times like these that we must remember: All life, no matter how small, is precious in God’s eyes, and all actions done on behalf of human life are great, no matter how insignificant they may seem. Why? Because even if only 1 life is saved by our efforts it renders God’s saving work on our behalf more visible.

Please remember our Town Hall meeting for the Master Plan this Tuesday, October 14 at 7:00p.m. in church. This is the time and place to have your questions answered in a factual manner. We sincerely hope to see you there.
